interview doubt

I hope this message finds you well. I have applied to several job positions, but unfortunately, I have not received any responses so far. I hold a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, and I am currently seeking suitable job opportunities. As a foreigner, I would be grateful for any advice or guidance you could provide on how to improve my chances of securing a position.

Thank you for reaching out, and I understand how frustrating this process can feel - especially as a foreigner navigating the job market.

Since you hold a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, your technical qualifications are very strong, but often employers may hesitate if your profile doesn’t match exactly what they’re looking for, or if they have concerns about work permits, language, or cultural fit.

Here are a few targeted suggestions:
1. Localize your application materials.
Make sure your CV follows local standards (concise, 1-2 pages, with clear technical skills, language proficiency, and visa status clearly stated). Many hiring managers glance at these things quickly.
2. Proactively address work eligibility.
If you already have work authorization (such as an open work permit, spouse visa, APRC, etc.), mention this directly in your applications - it lowers perceived hiring risk.
3. Expand your target roles.
Besides pure research or academic positions, consider R&D roles in private companies, product development, technical sales, or application engineering, where your Ph.D. background can still give you an edge.
4. Network heavily.
Unfortunately, many positions - especially for foreigners - are filled through referrals. Attend local industry events, conferences, LinkedIn groups, or reach out to alumni networks.
5. Language factor.
If you’re in Taiwan (or similar markets), improving your Chinese (even basic proficiency) can make a huge difference in employability, even for technical roles.

Best of luck! This phase takes time, but it’s solvable with the right adjustments.

Hi,
There are few options, maybe we can have a try -
find professors’ suggestions if he/she have cooperated companies
seeking for help from those graduates in your lab who has worked in company now. To know the job openings and see if there is a possibility to apply
try to constraint the job title you want and search them in 104 and linkedin. if you can find the people work in relative jobs, you can build relationships with them and see if they can help you for internal referrals
Hope this helps
Eva

12 interview doubt,
