Foreign Job Seeker
With having working experience of 6 years as an HR generalist from India,
I took a career break about 1.5 year to take care of my child. Simultaneously shifted from India to Taiwan along with my husband. Now i m very much interested to resume my career and looking for Job in HR department of Taiwanese company. Due to cultural difference or language barrier, i hardly get response from employers for the application submitted.
My question is, should i keep searching in the same direction, if yes what are the chances of job availability for foreigners in HR field.
Or I Should consider switching my career.
Please suggest.

Hello! First of all, I admire your courage to resume your career after a family break and international relocation. Your concern is very valid, and I’d like to offer two possible directions for you to consider:
1. If you still want to pursue an HR role:
• In Taiwan, HR roles are typically handled by local employees who are fluent in Mandarin, due to the need for local labor law compliance, internal communication, and benefits administration.
• However, international recruitment agencies like Michael Page, Robert Walters, Adecco, and ManpowerGroup often hire foreigners, especially for roles involving English-speaking clients or cross-border recruitment. Your experience as an HR generalist is highly relevant here.
• You may also look into HR opportunities at multinational companies in Taiwan—especially those that have operations in India or require coordination with global teams. Your cultural background and English proficiency could be a strong asset.
2. If you are open to a career transition:
• You might consider moving into Project Management (PM) or Product Management roles. Many Indian women in Taiwan have successfully transitioned into engineering or PM positions, where English communication and logical thinking are valued.
• You can further strengthen your profile by learning Agile/Scrum methodologies or pursuing a PMP certification, which is highly recognized in Taiwan’s tech industry.
• Also, I recommend joining expat communities and job networking events on platforms like LinkedIn or Meetup in Taiwan, where you can build connections and learn more about current job market trends.
As a mother and a strong professional woman, never underestimate the power of your resilience and wisdom. Your next journey will not only be yours—but a beautiful story your child will proudly witness. 😊
