Seeking job in hotel industry

I am so overwhelmed by finding jobs in Taiwan despite being a fresher from India. Although I am fresher I have skills as a housekeeper since childhood. May you guide me how to secure one without recruitment agencies.

Hi there,
Thanks for sharing. I understand it’s not easy to look for a job in Taiwan as a newcomer with no formal experience. But before anything else, here’s the most important thing: you must have legal permission to work. If you’re here on a tourist visa, you can’t work legally. If you just graduated from a local school, you might be able to apply for a work permit—make sure to check that first.

You mentioned you’ve done housekeeping since you were young. That’s a good start. Try to present those skills as strengths—like being careful, responsible, and hardworking. These are what hotels often look for.

If you don’t want to go through an agency, that’s okay. Try looking on websites like 104.com.tw or visit hotel websites directly. Some hostels or tourist hotels may prefer English speakers, but learning a few basic Chinese phrases will really help.

Most importantly, don’t take any job that doesn’t give you a legal contract. It might seem easier, but it can get you into serious trouble.

Keep going—finding a job takes time, but with the right steps, you’ll get there.

Hi my friend~

First of all, I am not an expert in Taiwan's foreigner employment law. Please double check everything again with expert in this area. Since this is so complicate, even I read Chinese, I don't understand...

Based on my knowledge, Taiwan has 2 types of foreigner worker's job.
Progressional worker (white collar)-- teacher, engineer, artist, layer etc
Labor worker (blue collar)-- caregiver, factory operators etc

If you are first type, then you need a resume in 104.com, please fill in all information including profile picture and autobiography. There are a lot of profile picture studio, paying couple hundred NTD is totally worth it. You can also use resume clinic, which is the free service here to review/improve your resume. Once you have resume ready, then you can apply job in 104.com.

If you are 2nd type, there are very strict rules and very complicate process. Most people/company just source through agency to save the effort for both side.

If you are currently getting a degree in Taiwan, there might be different opportunity and/or restrictions. Please contact with school's resource.

Wish you good luck!

Hi there! I know how tough and confusing job hunting in a new country can be, especially without local experience. You’re not alone in feeling overwhelmed. I’m happy to guide you, but I’ll need a bit more info to really help. Here are a few questions first:
1. Are you currently in Taiwan, or still in India?
2. Do you have a visa that allows you to work in Taiwan? If yes, what type is it (student, working holiday, ARC, etc.)?
3. What kind of hotel job are you aiming for? Housekeeping, front desk, kitchen, or something else?
4. Do you speak Mandarin Chinese? Most hotel jobs require at least basic Mandarin, unless it’s a large international hotel.
5. Are you open to jobs in any city, or only in places like Taipei or Taichung?

Now, even while you answer these, here are some practical suggestions to get started without using recruitment agencies:

1. Apply directly through hotel websites
Search for large international hotel chains like:
• Marriott
• IHG (InterContinental, Holiday Inn)
• Hyatt
• Hilton
• Shangri-La
• Mandarin Oriental
Most have careers pages where you can filter by location (Taiwan) and apply directly.

2. Use job boards
Visit these local job boards:
• 104.com.tw
• 1111.com.tw
Search using terms like “housekeeping” (房務), “hotel” (飯店), or “cleaning” (清潔). Use Chrome with Google Translate if needed.

3. In-person visits
If you’re already in Taiwan, go directly to hotels (especially mid-sized ones) and ask for job openings. Bring your resume, dress neatly, and politely ask if they’re hiring.

4. Language learning
If your Mandarin is limited, consider learning basic hotel-related phrases. Even 1 to 2 months of focused practice can make a big difference in front-desk or guest-facing roles.

Good luck!
