I've been working as a Physical Design Engineer for the past 6-7 years.
I recently quit my job because of the toxicity and lack of growth.
It's been incredibly hard to even land an interview.
What all could be the reasons? I have expertise in Physical Design, Timing Analysis and Signoff Flow Development.
I have even developed my own debug tool
Hello, please do not doubt yourself too quickly.
With 6–7 years in Physical Design, Timing Analysis, and Signoff Flow — plus your own debug tool — the issue is likely not your ability, but whether employers can quickly see your value.
I would suggest four priorities:
Rewrite your resume around the problems you can solve, not just tasks you handled.
Turn your debug tool into a clear achievement story that shows process improvement and efficiency gains.
If you have legal work status in Taiwan, put it near the top of your resume.
Do not rely only on mass applications — use LinkedIn, recruiters, referrals, and industry networks as well.
Also, when explaining why you left, focus on seeking a better environment for growth and technical contribution, rather than emphasizing how bad the previous company was.
What you need now is not more self-doubt.
You need to translate your technical depth, process-improvement ability, and work status into a message the market can understand quickly.
Once your positioning becomes clearer, interview opportunities often improve.
Hi,
some suggestions for your ref.
Rewrite your resume (PD-focused, Taiwan-style).
Simulate interview questions (STA / timing closure / signoff).
Help you position your “debug tool” as a strong selling point, what’s the difference? How strong it is by number / specific.
Bless you 🙏
